Dara & Eric
High school sweethearts Dara Hornik and Eric Mickschl declared their love in a Jewish ceremony overlooking sparkling Lake Michigan in June. The day was filled with intimate moments, from the pre-ceremony ketubah signing—a contract the bride and groom sign to affirm their love, commitment, and responsibility to one another—to post-ceremony private time with champagne and appetizers for the couple to celebrate becoming husband and wife. During the ceremony, Dara and Eric incorporated the Jewish traditions of drinking wine out of the kiddush cup, then breaking the glass. Dara’s father also sang a heartfelt rendition of “Love Me Tender” after the bridal party made its way down the aisle. Personal touches were equally apparent in the invitations, which were custom-designed by Eric, a graphic designer, and the place cards, which Dara’s aunt calligraphed. Dara chose purple, her favorite color, for the theme of the day, incorporating it into the flowers, linens, bridesmaid dresses, shoes and garter.
