Paula & Tony
Oct. 9, 2011 at George Williams College in Williams Bay
For their wedding, Tony Nettekoven (who’s originally from Elkhorn) and Paula King (who’s from Quito, Ecuador) had guests travel in from Oregon to Maine, Canada to Ecuador. “We were overwhelmed by the willingness of folks to come from so far to celebrate our special day,” says Tony. He and his bride planned a primarily do-it-yourself wedding, but days before the big event they realized they would need to rely on a little help from their friends and family. “It really wouldn’t have happened without them,” says Tony. Paula’s mom made the flowers for her hair, Paula’s sister helped out with the sewing, and others tirelessly chipped in as well. With the couple growing up worlds apart, the most memorable aspect of the wedding was how it brought their families together. “Having only previously met for one day, our parents had a chance to really bond and get to know each other in a way that has changed us all significantly,” says Tony.
