A Piñata Party is a Hit at Emily and John's Wedding

Who says a wedding has to be traditional? Not newlyweds Emily and John, that's for sure! Their Milwaukee wedding was custom tailored to their unique likes. In place of the white wedding gown with long flowing train, bride Emily opted for a dress she made by hand that sparkled and shined with green and blue sequins in a stunning art deco-inspired design. The bride AND groom both wore crowns of leaves and greenery during the ceremony where the couple shared the vows. But possibly the biggest veer from the norm was the reception, where the guests could leave their dancing shoes at home in exchange for the ultimate piñata party. Guests helped to make, break and share in the loot that erupted from the old party game that doubled as decorations. Uttke Photography & Design wonderfully captured all the happy memories that will now serve as Emily and John's very own family traditions.

From the Photographers:

Emily and John had a vision for their wedding day that we were particularly drawn to. The entire day reflected their own style. They made their own traditions and made the day unique and special; just the way weddings should be.

We knew every detail was meticulously planned at the South Shore Pavilion, but the whole day had an ease about it that relaxed everyone involved. The day for us began in Emily and John's hotel room. John showered, did his hair and gathered his things while Emily relaxed and got her makeup done. After John went to a friend's room to get dressed, Emily had the room packed with her closest friends, sisters, and mother. They laughed, painted their nails and awed at Emily as she sewed herself into her homemade wedding gown. Yes, she sewed herself into her gown. Talk about a crafty bride!

Although Emily and John were more casual on the morning of their wedding, John cried the entire time Emily walked down the isle. There’s just something about seeing your bride walking down that aisle…it's very emotional! The emotions didn’t stop the entire night as their friends and family from around the country shared stories of Emily and John.

Instead of a first dance, they asked guests to create piñatas. There were about 10 to smash when the time came. They were all different and all erupted with different things: bouncy balls, chocolate, suckers, ping pong balls, and one with 100 percent glitter (that exploded onto TJ). It was an awesome day.
