Take Me Out to the Ballgame

A Milwaukee Brewers themed big day!

Monday, April 6 marked the home opener for the 2015 Milwaukee Brewers baseball season. And what better way to celebrate the start of summer's favorite pastime than with a wedding that was all about the Brewers--and the union of and love of Heather and Ryan, that is!

Brewers and baseball were the theme, and the couple made some great plays. However, the bride and groom surely hit a homerun with a cake themed after the Brewers jersies, the bride's shoes that resembled baseballs, Cracker Jacks as favors for the guests, Bernie Brewer himself in attendance, and so much more. They really knocked it out of the park, and we're up out of our seats cheering for this fun celebration!

From the Bride:

Back in 2008-09, my sister worked with Ryan. She invited me to her work party, and I got to know some of the employees. I started hanging out with Ryan and a couple of his friends; we played cards at a local bar on a weekly basis. Within two weeks, he asked me out, and we went to our first Gambler hockey game (a tradition we continue each year to remember our first date). It took several months for me to be convinced, but one evening I just knew it was right when we were at a Pauly Shore stand-up show. After about 10 months of dating, he proclaimed his love at a Packers game.

The day we got engaged, I was working for my dad at a model train show at Shopko Hall, which is across the street from Lambeau Field. Ryan showed up with his daughter to look around and say hello. His sister's and brother's families showed up, too, and I should've gotten a clue when my sister showed up as well. When I was done working, we all walked over to Lambeau Field to get some dinner at Curly's. Ryan pretended to take pictures with his nieces and then asked me to get in a picture, at which point he got down on one knee and proposed--at the first spot he ever said "I love you."

I love yellow, and Ryan likes blue. We didn't originally decide to have a Brewer-themed wedding, but with a blue and yellow theme, and the fact that we love to see the Brewers both at home and away, the inevitable happened. It really was a great way to get the groom involved in every detail of the wedding! We decided that good photography and a fun environment were our top priorities for the day, so I decided to make my own origami flower bouquets, as well as origami flower boutonnieres and corsages. I'm pretty proud of them!

The most important aspects of our Brewer-themed wedding included:

-Cake: Our cake was designed to look like a Brewers jersey sitting atop home plate, and with two bobbleheads made of us for the topper.

-Baseball Centerpieces: My bridesmaids and I made these from paper lanterns and ribbon.

-My Shoes: I glued on rhinestones to look like baseballs and got a fun baseball-themed pedicure.

-Lighting: The DJ created it to look like Miller Park and include our names.

-Rally Towels: Guests were given these to wave when we entered the venue.

-Jean Segura Autographed Baseball: Ryan threw this out along with the garter toss.

-Garter: Under my dress I wore a Brewers-themed garter.

-Girls' Gifts: I gave Brewers flip-flops and handbags to each bridesmaid.

-Guys' Gifts: Ryan gave Brewers-embossed beer stein to each groomsman and Brewers jerseys to our ringbearers.

-Cracker Jacks: We included this baseball must-have snack as part of our thank you gift to guests.

-Bernie Brewer Mustaches: We gave these to each of the wedding party to wear during the grand march.

-Brewers Music: We played music heard at Miller Park during the grand march.

-Bernie Brewer: And, of course, we had the mascot himself show up during our grand march and then take pictures with our guests for about an hour.

Ryan was great during the entire planning process; he always gave his input and even helped by tying ribbon around all of the rally towels. The bridesmaids were such a big help with the homemade decorations. They came over about once a month to work on wedding decor and bond. My advice to other brides is to create a theme for the wedding that excites both of you. Also, it is possible to have a classy wedding that is a lot of fun to plan and attend!
