Videographer Alternative: Recorded Photo Booth Messages

Q. My married friends insist I should hire a videographer. “The day goes by so fast,” they keep telling me. But because our reception is going to be an intimate affair, I’d rather not include another camera. Can you suggest an alternative?

A. Hiring a videographer is an ideal way to capture memories from your wedding day. But for a personal touch, consider turning the camera on your guests, not just you.

Madison’s Strike A Pose Photo Booth allows wedding guests to record video messages in a standard photo booth. With the booth’s curtain closed, guests choose, via a large touchscreen, whether they’d like to pose for a series of photos or tape a 20-second video message for you and your new husband.

Co-owner Michael Tecku says the privacy of the setup allows for relaxed yet candid responses, even from your most camera-shy friends and family members. And since the flurry of your day limits the time you get to visit with your guests, Strike A Pose Booth gives everyone the chance to honor your relationship.

Post-nuptials, you’ll receive a DVD collection of 20 to 30 messages, with everything from a group of bridesmaids recalling funny stories to a tearful speech from a grandparent.
“Sometimes the bride and groom go in the booth and leave messages for themselves or for their new spouse to remember when they’re looking back for the next year,” Tecku says. “It produces some really beautiful messages.”
