Matching your Veil

Trends

Q. Does my veil have to match my dress?

A. The experts are split on this topic, although most consultants advise matching the two items color-wise. “You don’t want it to contrast,” says Carol Morem, sales manager at Germaine’s Fashion and Bridal in Lake Geneva. “It should be a smooth, seamless line of one color. Otherwise it could look choppy.”

That said, brides looking to add some color to their wedding wardrobe might consider mixing it up. Marah Odgers, owner of Marah’s Elegant Bridal in Mt. Horeb, had a bride who accented her ivory gown with golden crystal jewelry. “We tried a champagne veil and it really pulled everything together,” she says. “The champagne tone warmed up the entire look, but not so much that it was too noticeable.” One rule most experts agree on: The fancier the dress, the simpler the veil. If your gown is simple, you can get away with a more elaborate veil. germainesbridal.com, marahselegantbridal.com
