1} Lupine Love (top left)

Kathy Marcelle, owner of Sugar Pear Design, devised this invitation suite to showcase the lush flowers surrounding the couple’s venue—the bride’s parents’ home in Vermont. Laser-cutting showcased the botanical in a unique way, while the vibrant goldenrod hue kept the suite feeling warm and of-the-moment. The outer folio was laser-cut, with the inner invitation printed in elegant two-toned letterpress. “This suite was bright, cheerful and inviting; perfect for a summer wedding,” says Marcelle.

2} Succulent Taste (top right)

Designer Jennifer Silva of Design That Flies created a hand-painted watercolor wash for this custom invitation design. The couple wanted their wedding invitation to evoke the glassblowing class where they first met. “They wanted something very soft and flowy,” says Silva. The green and purple color scheme was inspired by the succulents the couple planned to feature throughout their celebration. The color gradations fading into one another served as a perfect counterpoint to the couple’s names rendered in crisp white laser-cut script.

3} Lavish Lace (bottom left)

When a bride came in requesting an invitation featuring lace, Debbie Pape, owner of Paper Envy, knew laser-cutting would be the perfect technique. “She wanted a little bling, but didn’t want glitter everywhere, so we just added the little crystal at the bottom of the fold-over pocket. Then the invite slips into it like a jacket,” says Pape. The finished effect is romantic, fashion-inspired and totally bridal. Pape adds that laser-cutting is a trend that still feels fresh and new, and is likely to be something many guests haven’t seen before. “Brides are always looking for that,” she notes.

4} Skyline Stunner (bottom right)

The Milwaukee skyline is the star of this invitation suite created by Jennifer Silva of Design That Flies. The glamorous city-by-night vibe is enhanced with a color palette of blush, gray and navy blue—just think of those colors as the sunset fades into velvety night, dotted with glittering stars. Laser-cutting is perfectly suited to a silhouette rendering like a skyline; here, it serves as an eye-catching envelope liner and 3-D invite. The mix of fonts also keeps things interesting. “When I talk to my couples about fonts, I always start by making sure they love the way the letters of their names look,” says Silva.
