Wedding Date: December 28, 2019
Sara Kekula and Jake Fleming’s love story was all thanks to a “chance meeting” at an after-work happy hour. But this was no accident: they later learned that a co-worker and mutual friend planned the set-up.
After blissfully dating for five months, Jake and his puppy, Prince, moved in with Sara. Two years later, the couple was on a snowy mountain hike during a ski trip in Colorado when Jake proposed. Sara suspected something was up, because he kept toying with his jacket pocket. “Turns out, while hiking in 21⁄2 feet of snow, Jake kept the wedding ring in his zipper pocket—it wasn’t in a box. Thank goodness we didn’t lose that ring in the snow!” she says.
The wedding represented the couple perfectly. Guests were greeted by a “Bubbles & Buds” entrance wall, where guests could select champagne (Sara’s drink of choice), or Jake’s go-to, Bud Light. Channeling a cozy “up north” vibe, seasonal greenery, pendant lighting and Edison bulbs were blended into the neutral color palette. The exposed brick, walls of windows and warm wood tones added to the charm.
Jake’s favorite moment was “standing at the altar and feeling so incredibly happy as I saw Sara walking down the aisle. That’s the moment that I’ll never forget,” he says. The drinks flowed, with three specialty cocktails dedicated to their three beloved dogs. From an area to snap Polaroid pictures to a cigar station on the rooftop, the night was unforgettable — as it should be.
