Everyone loves a good proposal story. But often, you don’t have photos to accompany it.

Until now. Thanks to paparazzi-style proposals, gents can now have a photographer on hand—and on the sly—to capture the moment.

These photographers work closely with the groom-to-be to choreograph the perfect proposal, says James Ambler, owner of Paparazzi Proposals, a national company that has trained and vetted local photographers. The photographer is then secretly on-site, pretending to photograph birds or landscapes, for example, but ready to catch the moment the groom-to-be drops to one knee.

“The proposal is really the first moment of the couple making a decision to spend their lives together,” says Dennis Felber of Milwaukee’s Marry Me Photos, which offers proposal photography. “To be able to look back at the proposal through photos and relive that moment has great meaning to them.”
