Judy and Patrick hosted a joyful day on the shores of Lake Michigan.
Classic Summer Wedding at Sugarland Barn
When Travis Braga took Jennie Carley on their first date, the plan was to “borrow” his parent’s prized antique canoe, paddle it across the lake near his home, and enjoy ice cream together. However, they greatly underestimated the size of the lake, arrived at a closed ice cream shop, got rained on during the row back and returned to parents upset about their canoe theft, which left their date all washed up. The good news is their love was not sunk, and the two married 10 years later beneath clear skies at their casually elegant wedding. The bridesmaids carried oversized crepe paper flowers, while the groomsmen wore sweetgrass boutonnieres from Charleston, South Carolina, one of the couple’s favorite vacation spots. The bride’s favorite part of the day was a post-ceremony toast, surrounded by family and friends. In addition to the traditional cake, guests were served Chocolate Shoppe Ice Cream in sweet remembrance of the not-so-botched date that started it all.
