'Til Death Do Us Part

While we could've posted a romantic engagement session filled with fall leaves, or a Real Wedding with a masquerade theme, in honor of tricks and treats on this spooky holiday, we thought zombies felt more apropro. Think you can't have a little fun with your engagement photos? Think again. Mandy Kellogg of Soul Exposure turned a church yard photo session into a scene straight out of The Walking Dead--and all in the name of love. See how the undead breathe new life into the vow "'til death do us part." Happy Halloween!

From the photographer:

I had completed an engagement session for friends of mine, Ryan and Ashley, when I received an email from Ryan.  He stated that they loved the way their pictures turned out, but he was interested in another session, which would include zombies this time.  Being a fan of zombies myself, I giggled with excitement as I agreed to start planning the session.

With the help from graphic design artist, Justin Lorraine, storyboards were drawn up to show how the plot would unfold.  I advertised on Facebook, asking for volunteers willing to be covered in dirt and fake blood for a non-typical engagement session.  I was overwhelmed with responses, and narrowed it down to three people.
I ventured off to thrift shops--a favorite past time of mine in general--in search of clothing that we could ruin.  Weaponry was also gathered.  I purchased Halloween makeup and made buckets of fake blood.  The day rolled around and we all sat in my dining room as I applied makeup to each of the three zombies.  With the help of some Youtube videos, this proved to be a really exciting, yet challenging, endeavor.  My three young kids watched the process unfold, unsure of what to think.

We were finally all set, and took off to a local cemetery.  The little moments ‘behind the scenes’ of this session were just as priceless as the session itself.  A zombie driving a pickup truck down the road, another zombie holding my one year old son, all of us having to hide behind the church as traffic passed by on the highway.  Our zombies had to practice their walks, movements, and their attacks.  Everyone had a complete blast with this project, and I’m so thankful that someone chose me to do something so fun and unique.  A few months later I photographed Ryan and Ashley’s wedding, this time without blood and gore.
