As two career creatives, April Swinson, a writer and creative director, and Nick Smasal, a design director in the ad business, this couple seems like they might naturally turn to Pinterest boards for wedding inspiration. Instead, lighthearted, small, and unfussy was the only plan for their big day. “We weren’t shooting for something that felt like it could be seen in a magazine; we just wanted a space and a day that felt cozy and bursting with love,” says April, who married Nick at the Enchanted Barn. “We wanted a place where family and friends (with all their respective littles) could run around, and a place where our dog and some of his K-9 pals could do the same.” The two set the laid-back and carefree tone with few decorations besides florals. While the groom’s favorite part of the day was the first look the couple shared, the bride said it was a close tie between her husband’s vows that left not a dry eye in the barn, and her grandpa walking her down the aisle. “It was literally the only part of a wedding I’d ever imagined since being a little girl.”
