Classic Palette in Elegant Wedding Day at The Edgewater Hotel

Bathed by sun and shimmering lakefront views, Hannah Johnson and Henry Houden’s black-tie wedding celebrated their Midwestern roots. Though the pair both grew up in the Madison area, attending neighboring high schools and moving in shared circles, they didn’t officially meet until winter break of their freshman year in college. Despite the distance—Henry at University of Wisconsin–Madison and Hannah at Miami University in Ohio—their connection deepened over time, blossoming into a love that would carry them to a beautiful life together in Chicago.

A radiant wedding celebrated their shared beginning and bright future. Following a timeless Catholic ceremony at Blessed Sacraments Church, a trolley brought the wedding party to the Wisconsin State Capitol to capture a classic Madison photo op.

Transitioning seamlessly into a romantic reception, The Edgewater Hotel’s terrace hosted a cocktail hour for guests while the couple had a private sneak peek of the hotel’s exquisite ballroom, fully draped to create a clean, elevated canvas for a refined palette of black, white and soft ivory. Delicate calla lilies anchored the floral design with fresh pops of gentle green, balancing organic touches with geometric intentionality.The couple’s monogram, two interlaced H’s, decorated stationery, cocktail napkins and commemorative matchboxes.

Hannah and Henry balanced moments celebrating family with time meant just for them, weaving their first dances throughout dinner. During sunset, newlyweds stepped outside to enjoy a moment of respite and take portraits together before rejoining their guests to dance the night away. —Diane Meyer
