Lush, Vibrant Celebration of Love with Breezy Reception Design at Overture Center for the Arts

"We had a wedding beyond our wildest dreams."

Following a 19-month whirlwind romance, Caroline Robbins and Amy DeJong helped design their own engagement rings, and they each proposed at separate meaningful locations for two completely unique experiences.  Given the singularity of their engagement(s), they aimed to ensure their wedding day did not feel like it was “picked out of catalog,” but rather a one-of-a-kind event tailored specifically to their love and life together.

Bathed in natural light within Overture Center for the Arts, the couple's wedding unfolded with bursts of bold hues and personalized details. A showstopping floating chuppah composed of winding ivy and a vibrant array of florals sat at the center of the ceremony space. Following the tradition set at the respective weddings of Caroline’s siblings, a lace tablecloth, which had been gifted to their family by their late nanny, was used as the “roof” of the lush chuppah. Their dog, Willie Nelson, served as honorary ring bearer, and following the heartfelt vow exchange, a playful cocktail hour ensued.

Guests enjoyed a round of mini golf, with themed holes celebrating the pair’s love for Chicago, D.C., and Madison, sipped on gazpacho out of glass beakers—an ode to Amy’s career as a scientist—and read the newlyweds' love notes on custom cocktail napkins. A handwritten letter awaited each person in attendance, guiding them to the airy reception.

Soft blue linens and sunset-hued floral centerpieces were grounded by wooden details while the glow of multicolored candles flickered throughout the space. Amy and Caroline's modern celebration was an affair full of love, laughter and pure happiness, with the pair stating, "We had a wedding beyond our wildest dreams."
