Nostalgiacore: Wedding Day Details Inspired by 90's Movie at Villa Bellezza

A tasteful blend of nostalgia and tradition, Layne and Nick Vander Heyden’s wedding day pulled inspiration from their time spent abroad, nights out with friends in Milwaukee and the bride’s favorite movie, The Parent Trap. Villa Bellezza proved to be the ideal setting for the nostalgic celebration to unfold, calling to mind both the vineyards the couple had toured during their trips to Spain and the father’s property in the ’90s movie. The bridal party wore T-shirts modeled after the fictional vineyard’s merchandise, changing “Parker Knoll” to the bride’s new last name, “Vander Heyden.” 

Leaning into the vineyard aesthetic, subtle cork and grape details were woven throughout the classically elegant reception scene, scored by Slovenian accordion music played by Nick’s grandfather. Perhaps the most notable nods to The Parent Trap took place on the dance floor. Layne and her father took part in a playful re-creation of the film’s iconic handshake and in a heartwarming highlight of the evening, the newlywed’s first dance was set to Nat King Cole’s “L-O-V-E.”

Punctuating their personalized wedding day, Nick and Layne sent their guests home with custom “I Closed Vandy’s” bumper stickers in the likeness of stickers given out at Wolski’s, their favorite bar to frequent.
