Down-to-earth couple Aliya Meadows and Alexander Dawes chose a minimalist wedding at Gather at Deer District, filled with personal touches. After meeting on Hinge, navigating a long-distance relationship and Aliya relocating to Milwaukee, the pair wanted to honor their connection by centering the day around their loved ones’ experience. As a thank you to their guests for traveling to celebrate with them, the couple presented each guest with welcome bags containing discount cards to their favorite Milwaukee spots, encouraging them to explore the city during their stay. Aliya and Alexander also chose a nontraditional bridal party of three matrons of honor and three best men and a group of close friends, each of whom gifted the mothers of the bride and groom with roses during the ceremony. Family members wore lapel pins featuring the national flowers of Jamaica and Panama to honor Alexander’s heritage, alongside a periwinkle flower to symbolize the strength and resilience of enslaved people. White florals and thriving greenery created an organic, effortless backdrop against the floor-to-ceiling windows of the ceremony space. In a surprise orchestrated by their photographer, Aliya and Alexander’s first kiss as a married couple was captured live by a painter, creating a unique keepsake of the moment. The newlyweds beamed as their candlelit reception unfolded with vibrant celebration, saxophone serenades, and a churro cart in place of a traditional wedding cake. Grateful for a day that truly reflected their relationship, Aliya and Alexander celebrated their wedding with undeniable authenticity.
