On a late summer evening at Milwaukee’s Black Swan Riverwalk, Disha Bhagwat and Mike Bannon became husband and wife in a bright and colorful celebration of Indian and American cultures. The ceremony honored Disha’s Indian heritage, with the couple wearing pink and white traditional Indian outfits to begin the festivities. The charming, warm atmosphere and river view at the venue made for a breathtaking environment. Their nuptials started off with several Hindu traditions, including the honoring of Lord Ganesha, a deity from Hindu mythology who is worshipped at the beginning of new chapters of life, followed by the entrances of the groom and bride. The couple then exchanged their colorful garlands, symbolizing the bride’s agreement to marry the groom. Disha’s parents placed her right hand in Mike’s, a tradition that asked the groom to accept the bride as an equal partner in life. The excitement continued throughout the reception with even more shimmering colors and playful ambience. Newlyweds changed into western attire in the evening, and the first dance between Disha and her father was a fun Bollywood-style flash mob. The entire celebration made for a beautiful fusion of two joyous families and their deeply valued heritages.
