There is true decadence in masculinity—and this imagined wedding is a standout example. A luxurious celebration of queer love, this shoot keyed in on the concepts of intimacy and style. Refreshing glasses of champagne and a curated selection of wine would welcome each guest into the edgy downtown Madison space. Interpreting what our grooms would do, the design team (led by Q Jancola) created an easy flow—coordinating with both the deep-toned aesthetic and the existing interiors—to encourage attendees to wander through the halls, traverse the grand stairway and relax in the plush lounge.
The historic Ellsworth Block, with its high ceilings, exposed brick and abundant light, lent a strong sense of character to the design. Its navy-painted walls became a backdrop that tied seamlessly into the rich palette of the evening, echoed through linens and stationery. The story unfolded around a moody palette with a hint of Victorian romance, layered with warm light to enhance the space’s natural beauty.
At the center of it all, the glass-ceiling sky deck transformed into the reception space as the day gave way to night. By daylight, the scene felt airy and softened; at dusk, table lamps cast a glow that heightened the intimacy. Dupioni silk linens and botanical-print napkins grounded the table, while florals spilled in a cascading ombré of oxblood, marigold and merlot. Wine bottles tucked between arrangements added whimsy, while heirloom-inspired plates and delicate glassware brought refinement to each place setting.
Inventive touches replaced tradition—a champagne tower stood in place of an escort display, each coupe bearing a guest’s name. The grooms, dressed in soft sandstone and beige, offered a visual contrast against the saturated tones, allowing our newlyweds to shine. With a curated wine bar, dessert shooters and a sky deck shifting with the light, the celebration carried a bold, brooding elegance.
