Kala Strawn and Kurt Mueller sought an intimate, DIY feeling for their backyard wedding. Another must: An important role for their 18-month-old son, Everett. But Kala got a little worried on the morning of the wedding when Everett, the best man, awoke with a slight fever. To add to her concerns, rain was threatening to soak the ceremony. While Everett napped and the rain fell, the bride and groom nervously delayed their nuptials, waiting for the perfect moment. But the stars aligned and the rain ceased just as Everett woke from his nap, ready to walk his dad down the aisle. One of Kala’s favorite moments, she recalls, was when Everett made his way down the aisle holding Dad’s hand. The little guy’s new shoes had “squeakers” in them, and, “in the rush to get the ceremony started, we forgot to take them out, so each step he took, he squeaked.” After the mini best man stole the show and the hearts of the guests on his way down the aisle, Kala and Kurt took turns holding him during the ceremony, joyfully embracing their future.
