While couples everywhere yearn for a completely customized wedding day, Cat and Mitch decided to take on the trend with their own hands, along with the help of their loved ones. The vision for their outdoor wedding day was a little bit Dirty Dancing, a little kitsch and a whole lot of Wisconsin summertime romance.
The ultimate DIY bride, Cat’s artistry touched every aspect of the day, starting with designing the playing-card- inspired invites. Imbuing the day with over-the-top whimsy, she also crafted giant paper flowers to frame the seating chart, which appeared to bend and sway in the summer breeze. Her dear friend and florist, Christina Huelsman, used playful, sculptural blooms, referencing the custom paper flowers to ensure the fanciful aesthetic was perfectly aligned. Cat enlisted her father to construct the wooden gallery wall, featuring photos and memorabilia from the happy couple’s 10-year relationship, alongside portraits of passed family members so they could attend the one-of-a-kind celebration in spirit.
Thrifted bud vases and pottery from local ceramicists peppered the reception tables accompanied by watercolor place cards painted by the bride. Marked by colorful pennant flags representing their Peru engagement, the tented reception was the perfect punctuation to Cat and Mitch’s creative “Camp Kreps” wedding day.
Sipping on Hamm’s, indulging in five different wedding cakes and dancing the night away in their western boots, their celebration captured the essence of an endless summer, completely (hand)made with love.
