Rainy weather is said to be good luck on your wedding day, and Mel and Lance's Milwaukee event held up to the superstition. Despite stormy clouds overhead, the bride looked stunning in her gown (um, who doesn't love a dress with pockets?). But it was truly her luxe fascinator, with it's throwback feel to Carrie Bradshaw as a bride, that had us swooning!
The couple wanted the day to feel fun and relaxed, and even though the weather tried to interrupt, the pair made the best of it, complete with sleek umbrellas to enhance the already lovely photos captured by Little Giant Photography. The guests in attendance were treated to the sights, sounds, and tastes of Milwaukee, the place where Mel and Lance first met and started their love story. Even though they now live down south, we couldn't be more pleased that they returned to Wisconsin to share their vows, as well as their awesome wedding with all of us. Enjoy the Wisco celebration...

From the Bride:
Though we live in New Orleans now, we decided to have our wedding in Milwaukee because we met in the city, and it still feels like home to us. We wanted all of our visiting friends and family to be part of celebrating the city we love--through our ceremony along the beautiful shoreline at South Shore Pavilion, a polka with the Milwaukee Brewers Baseball Famous Racing Sausages, a sunset cruise on Lake Michigan with Milwaukee Boat Line, and of course with local beer from Brenner Brewing.
Lance and I also knew that we wanted our celebration to be fun! Being in our mid-thirties, we've been part of so many joyous weddings with friends that we stole their most fun moments and did away with wedding traditions that didn't suit us. I took to heart the idea that everyone remembers how a wedding feels, not necessarily how it looks. As a design curator and a trained architect, we really DO care about how things look, but we made the conscious decision to not let our professional sides stress about visual details and instead turn our attention to experiences that would make our guests smile.
For most of the aesthetics, I trusted my Milwaukee friend Janet Gourley (incorporated as JLG Flowers) for our flowers and ceremony decoration. She incorporated thoughtful details like peonies, the Indiana state flower, and barley and hops for the men's boutteniers. Our fantastic photographer Tia Brindel (Little Giant Photography) captured all the small details, such as our wedding rings stacked up with the "guest book" Jenga blocks, but more so captured how happy we both were to have all our friends and family together with us on that glorious rainy day! It really is lucky.
