Joanna Huang showed up on the first day of college orientation to find Jin Wook Kang wearing the same high school T-shirt that she had on. The two actually knew of each other, but only became friends that freshman year. Friendship turned into eight years of dating, which resulted in a surprise proposal along Lake Michigan, in front of the Milwaukee Art Museum. “Jin actually doesn’t remember this too well, as he basically blacked out from nerves,” Jo says with a laugh. Inspired by modern minimalism mixed with boho elements, Jo and Jin knew The Tinsmith’s unique aesthetic was the perfect fit for their day. The rehearsal dinner included two cultural ceremonies: a Chinese tea ceremony to honor Jo’s heritage, and a Korean Paebaek ceremony for Jin. On the big day, a vibrant floral color scheme of pinks and oranges mixed with neutrals made a bright statement among industrial contemporary details. After the vows, they celebrated with a tower of champagne poured by the newlyweds. A favorite moment was their first dance as husband and wife below twinkling lights, which Jo calls magical. Snapshots from the photobooth served as a keepsake to remember Jo and Jin’s special day.
