Decor Idea: Incorporating College Pride

Weddings are not only about making new memories—they’re also about honoring the old ones. For Erin and Matt Francsis, that meant incorporating the college campus where their love began into their May 2014 big day.

“Matt and I met while students at UW,” tells Erin. “[Despite] living in Houston now, we chose Memorial Union for our wedding because it’s our favorite spot in Madison. Some of our best memories are days spent with friends drinking beer and eating brats and Babcock ice cream while enjoying the beautiful view of Lake Mendota.”

And it wouldn’t be a Memorial Union event without those terrace chairs. Working with the wedding coordinator, the bride had the bright idea to turn the colorful chairs into seats of honor for her and her groom, adorning them with a glittering “Mrs.” and “Mr.” sign. Miniature versions of the teal and orange chairs even made their way onto tables, a sweet personal touch honoring the couple’s history. Memorial Union, Madison, 608.265.3000, union.wisc.edu
