Sophia Wood immediately noticed Erik Saucedo at a college bar in Madison — and that was just the beginning. When the pandemic hit four years later, the pair ventured to the Smoky Mountains, whose idyllic woods and waterfalls served as the perfect spot for Erik’s proposal. A Door County wedding was the only choice for the bride, as she had spent her childhood summers there. Erik was dressed to impress in a dapper Burberry plaid suit, fit for the rustic ambience. Sophia wore an off-the-shoulder Sarah Seven gown, accessorized with Jimmy Choos. “I do's” were exchanged at a Norwegian-style chapel tucked in the woods. “It was exactly what we had envisioned,” Sophia said. Paying homage to Erik’s Mexican heritage, a lazo [lasso] wedding ritual of unity was performed and a mariachi band played. The party continued at the manicured grounds of Garden Gables, where heartfelt speeches brought everyone to tears. After a tequila toast to the Saucedo family, loved ones danced the night away and celebrated the newlyweds.
